This year’s conference is being held at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler resort. Nestled at the base of Blackcomb Mountain, The Fairmont Chateau Whistler resort defines mountain luxury. With true ski-in and ski- out convenience, the classic elegance of this landmark Whistler hotel offers a modern alpine setting for unsurpassed guest service, exceptional dining, full resort amenities, and a world class spa.

CME at Whistler is a great program that combines family vacationing and skiing in a resort atmosphere, along with 10 hours of Category 1 continuing medical education. Whistler offers alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, and many other winter activities at both Whistler and Blackcomb. You will also find many superb dining options and excellent shopping for the relaxed afternoon. Whistler is a great destination for families, as it offers many entertainment and relaxation options.

At the end of the conference participants should be able to:

  • Distinguish and define the history and pathophysiology to better diagnosis and manage chronic traumatic encephalopathy.

  • Identify which lumbar degenerative pathologies have favorable outcomes with surgical intervention. Discuss and better understand adverse consequences of lumbar fusion and risks of developing post- laminectomy syndrome.

  • Provide an update on the latest techniques and technology in bronchoscopy. Topics discussed will include electromagnetic navigation, endobronchial ultrasound, and use of fiducial markers.

  • Understand the bicuspid aortic valve is one of the most common congenital heart defects, occurring in nearly 2% of the population, the majority of whom will ultimately require surgical intervention. This talk will comprehensively review the current understanding of the bicuspid aortic valve, with a particular emphasis on natural history and management.

  • Define and learn the diagnostic evaluation of chronic pelvic pain to differentiate possible causes. Understand newer concepts in management including musculoskeletal treatments as well as minimally invasive surgery.

  • Understand how to diagnose fibromyalgia and discuss the likely pathophysiology of the disorder and review and discuss the data related to the three drugs FDA approved to treat fibromyalgia

  • Discuss an overview of security and required recordkeeping for physicians that provide addiction treatment through prescribing and/ or dispensing of buprenorphine. An excellent review for any physician that has controlled substances, even samples, at his/her office.

  • Provide an overview of federal controlled substances laws and regulations. Will emphasize new regulations, such as electronic prescriptions, drug disposal, multiple prescriptions for C2, locum tenens, and controlled substances records. An excellent review for all physicians who prescribe, administer, dispense, and/or handle controlled substances.

  • Define how T/CT imaging is performed and the advantages of PET/ CT imaging over traditional imaging modalities, such as CT and MRI. Discuss new developments in PET/CT imaging and their implications for the primary care provider.

  • Understand newly recognized “Broken Heart Syndrome” while reviewing and discussing the treatment modality options and the overall prognosis of Transient Catecholamine Induced Cardiomyopathy.
