Welcome to the PCMS College of Medical Education
The College of Medical Education was founded by local physicians
in cooperation with the University of Puget Sound in 1975. The "College" provided
continuing education for the medical community, including physicians,
nurses and EMTs. In 1987, the College experienced severe financial
difficulty with the increased hospital involvement in physician
continuing medical education and a severe lack of nurse participation
in education programs after the state licensing requirements
no longer mandated educations requirements. The college reorganized
as a subsidiary of PCMS with an independent board of directors
- 12 members appointed by the PCMS Board of Trustees, three members
appointed by the College Board and a hospital representative
appointed by each hospital system in the county. The PCMS Executive
Director oversees as Secretary.
Today, the College of Medical Education has found its niche in
providing 12 courses annually directed toward the primary care
physician. The college is an independent, physician-owned and
controlled organization that holds category I accreditation status
as award vial WSMA from the American Board of Continuing Medical
Education (AACME).
The College of Medical Education is proud to offer quality programs
on timely subjects to physicians of Pierce County .
- Responding to Local Physicians Needs
- Designed and Coordinated by Local Physicians
- Offering AMA and AAFP Category I Credit.
