College of Medical Education Mission Statement

The purpose of the College of Medical Education is to provide a local resource for quality, Category I, continuing medical education programs. The intent is to provide the medical community an avenue to share and exchange expertise, increase competence, and provide education that results in increasing the quality of patient care.

The target audience is defined early in the planning phase and special efforts are made to reach the target group. The primary characteristics of potential participants include:
  • Pierce County Medical Society members and other physicians and physician assistants practicing in Pierce County
  • Physicians and physician assistants practicing within the specialty parameters of the given topic
  • Others identified in relation to the topic

The College Board of Directors is comprised of a broad cross section of medical specialists. The programs planned are intended to provide some element of specialized education to most medical specialties but primary care education is given highest priority. CME activities will include education programs that best meet the ideal time, place, and specifics of the target audience.

Activities are designed and planned based on local educational needs with an eye to offering the most up to date information on any given subject matter. Programs are generally full or half day courses, offering speakers on myriad subject matters and they are planned in keeping with the purpose of the College. Courses are primarily full day but half and multiple day courses are also offered and they are planned and implemented in accordance with the requirements of Category I CME as mandated by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) via WSMA.

Each program offered by the College seeks to improve competence and ultimately patient care provided by attendees. Every program will be evaluated based on initial learning objectives and the degree to which those objectives were achieved.

The College of Medical Education is operated by physicians and physician assistants and conducts Category I programs for physicians and physician assistants. All program planning, implementation and evaluation is conducted by physicians and physician assistants with assistance of staff.
